Transverse Tales art opening on December 3rd
I am thrilled to announce my upcoming opening at Colorado Wine Company. My dear friend Brett (we met each other at Occidental College in 2011) invited me to show my work at his lovely wine bar and I was so happy to accept.
Transverse Tales: The spectacle of the wild animal in Los Angeles
Opening Saturday, December 3rd at 7pm
Colorado Wine Company - 2305 Colorado Blvd, Eagle Rock, CA 90041
Transverse Tales is a series of detailed and glowing illustrations featuring animals or species in the Los Angeles area. Each drawing seeks to tell a story about a creature and its habitat, and asks the viewer to contemplate our role in the future of each animal. The drawings are habitats rendered in fascinating detail, ink and watercolor artworks that absorb the eye with a myriad of plants, animals, and insects.
It is nearly impossible to separate an animal or plant from our cultural ideas of it - human minds operate by creating symbols that transform an object into a larger idea. Animals become larger than life, become characters in a cultural narrative. One represents the danger of habitat destruction, another the hope in the face of extinction. Transverse Tales is no exception - each animal represented carries symbolism for our relationship with the natural world, and our hopes and fears for the future. However, through careful observation and research, as well as imagination, the artist strives to let a new voice emerge from each animal.
