Where There Was a Freeway, We Built a Garden - Poster commemorating the Arlington Garden's 15th anniversary

I was truly honored to be asked to create this drawing commemorating the beautiful Arlington Garden in Pasadena. It's a really special place in many ways. It is always free and open to the public. It was created in a space that had been destined to become a freeway.

It is an enchanting tumble of California native and Mediterranean plants, following the natural ebb and flow of the seasons. From brilliant green and bursting with wildflowers in the spring, to the crunchy seed pods and warm tans of the late summer.

At any moment you might find kids playing in the meadow, old friends catching up in leafy corners, teenagers meeting their friends after school, volunteers tending the orange orchard and compost bins, or birders flocking to see a golden crowned sparrow.

Like many organizations, the Garden is suffering financially right now. They are raising funds to cover the cost of maintaining the garden, keeping it free and open to the public, and offering free virtual community programs. I highly recommend visiting the Garden, and if you enjoy it (you will) and have the means, consider giving a donation to help them out.
