Last spring I watched as a feisty Allen's hummingbird defended the feeders in my backyard against all comers. He perched proudly on top of the pole, preening in the rain and looking around alertly. I made this drawing inspired by him - I depicted him clinging to a spray of red flowering currant, Ribes sanguineum.
