Locals Only ~ Hyper-Local Wildflower Seeds
Locals Only ~ Hyper-Local Wildflower Seeds
PLEASE NOTE: SEED ORDERS WILL SHIP ONCE A WEEK STARTING ON NOVEMBER 30
A collaboration with Los Angeles native landscape designer Dune Gardens.
This seed mix contains 10 local wildflower species selected by Kevin of Dune Gardens to celebrate and reflect LA’s unique ecology, while being xerically inclined with bloom periods that arc into summer. It includes several species seldom found in seed mixes, such as purple clarkia (a pink-purple Clarkia that blooms at the tail-end of spring and dances in sensitive reactivity to the sun, much like a grass), clustered tarweed (a hardy, summer-blooming yellow aster that pollinators will love) and American bird’s-foot trefoil (a delicate legume that hosts over two dozen butterfly and moth species).
Sow this mix in your garden now for a garden filled with wildflowers that will be coated in the joyous, frenetic buzzing of happy pollinators!
Margaret’s ink-and-watercolor illustrations celebrate this seed mix in full bloom. Seeds are sourced from Theodore Payne Foundation and packets are printed locally.
Sowing instructions
Easy method: Scatter onto soil or mulch in winter or early spring.
Advanced method: Scarify soil in desired location with a rake. Mix seed with horticultural sand (3 parts sand:1 part seed). Broadcast seed mix over desired location and then lightly tamp into soil with your feet by lightly walking over the broadcasted seed. Gently water in to settle seeds into soil.
Notes: Mix will do best in full to part sun, in bare soil (no mulch), if you keep the soil consistently moist during establishment and remove weeds.
